Currently there are four collections available in JCU Picture Archive. Firstly the Daintree Collection held in the Cairns JCU Library, secondly the North Queensland Collection which is held in the Townsville NQ Photograph Collection, Early Townsville and now the Nelly Bay Photograph Collection held in JCU Townsville Library. Both Townsville Collections have one series, whilst the Daintree Collection held in JCU Cairns Library has three series.
Daintree Collection contains the following series:
- Series One – images of the CAFNEC Daintree blockade campaign in 1983 when construction of a 4WD track from Cape Tribulation to Bloomfield prior to World Heritage listing of the area.
- Series Two – images of CAFNEC 20th Anniversary display in 2001 covering campaigns at Daintree, Mt Windsor Tablelands, Woopen Creek and Downey Creek areas and Ravenshoe public meeting to discuss World Heritage Listing consequences for theTimber Industry.
- Series Three – Contains an assignment by an undergraduate student of James Cook University, Cairns Campus, Mary Burg, who was also the CAFNEC Co-ordinator. Her assignment is called "The Involvment of Non-Government Conservation Organisations in the lead up to the listing of the Wet Tropics Rainforest on the World Heritage Register in 1988".
North Queensland Photograph Collection in Townsville has approximately 40,000 historical photographs of the whole of North Queensland from Rockhampton to the Torres Strait and west to the border, from which over 300 have been selected for this digital archive. They show buildings, industry, people, shipping and period costume.
Nelly Bay Photograph Collection in Townsville has approximately 120 photographs of the Nelly Bay Harbour development on Magnetic Island, 1983 – 1993. These photos show the construction of the Island Breakwall, aboriginal flag raising and demonstrations against the development.
Early Townsville Collection (Part of the NQ Collection) held in Townsville comprises around 200 images of early Townsville cityscapes from some significant albums in the North Queensland Photograph Collection - namely Willmett and Wyeth, and the Laurie Album. These photographs date from the late 19th Century to approximately early 1930s.
